For the VMS to work optimally, OS settings must have correct configurations. See the list below for recommended OS setting changes and optimizations.
1. Have more than one administrator on the operating system side
This practice provides security in case the main username is forgotten. If one admin forgets the main username, another admin can still access the system with their credentials.
2. Optimize power settings
Do the following modifications to the power settings:

Disable sleep mode

Enable full power usage
Power-setting optimizations ensure that the server operates optimally and power outages do not cause issues when the server is turned off. You can modify Windows power settings in Settings > System > Power & battery.
3. Optimize BIOS settings
In the BIOS settings, set the machine to power up automatically after power loss. This way, issues with the server in case of a power outage can be avoided.
4. Set the operating system time zone
Ensure that the correct time zone has been set for the OS, as improper configuration can cause issues with playback when installing a new server. Windows time zone settings can be modified in Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
5. Exclude VMS files and material from your antivirus scanner
Excluding the VMS from the antivirus scanner reduces the load on the server and the number of disk read events. Exclusions for Windows Defender can be set in Settings > Privacy & security > Windows security > Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings.
6. Optimize network settings
Follow these recommendations related to network settings:

Have an Intel network card with at least a 1 GB link

Configure the network card settings as follows:

Interrupt Moderation Rate: Extreme

Receive Buffers/Receive Descriptors: 2048

Transmit Buffers/Transmit Descriptors: 2048

If there is a higher-speed network card, the buffer size can be larger.

When using a separate network card, the processor on the network card does the work, and this does not burden the server's own processor. By increasing buffering, it can be guaranteed that the network traffic generated by the cameras reaches the server and the traffic does not drop out.

7. Check that Windows Defender Smart App Control is not blocking the VMS

8. Enable remote desktop connection if needed
Enabling RDP makes maintenance work easier. You can enable RDP in Windows settings > System > Remote Desktop.
